The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires the Littleton/Englewood Industrial Pretreatment Division (Division) to regulate industrial and commercial facilities in the service area which generate wastewater that may be significant to the Littleton/Englewood Wastewater Treatment Plant (L/E WWTP) [40 CFR 403.8(f)(2)]. In support of this requirement, the Division uses a Wastewater Survey and initial inspections to obtain information regarding facility operations, chemical usage, and to evaluate the significance of a facility’s wastewater discharge to the L/E WWTP. Wastewater may be specifically defined by EPA as significant, or it may be designated as significant by the Division.
The information collected from facilities is used by the Division to identify and control industrial discharges to the sanitary sewer which might (1) interfere with wastewater treatment plant operations, (2) limit biosolids recycling opportunities, (3) endanger the health or safety of wastewater collection system workers, and/or (4) pass through the treatment process to harm human health and/or the environment. The objective of the survey is to obtain information pertaining to the wastewater facilities.
New industrial and commercial facilities in the service area and facilities that change location in the service area are required to complete the survey. Existing facilities may be required to complete the survey.
